Despite being on the chart for five weeks already Paranormal Activity has finally made it to the top of the box office.
The movie has been steadily climbing up the chart in recent weeks and toppled Where The Wild Things Are to finally gain that number one spot grossing $22 million.
Directed by Oren Peli the movie follows a young, middle class couple who move into a suburban 'starter' tract house. But they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.
The success for the Saw series continues as Saw VI opened at number two, grossing almost $15 million.
After a week at the top spot Where the Wild Things Are slipped to the third spot while Law Abiding Citizen and Couples Retreat also fell one place each to four and five.
Astro Boy, the latest animation movie of 2009, opened at six while Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant was the third new entry in the chart opening at eight.
