Johnny Depp To Receive a Career Achievement Award

Johnny Depp has been selected to receive the prestigious Career Achievement Award at the 2009 Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) in Nassau.

The festival's patron Sir Sean Connery will be on hand to hand over the prize, which will be an extra special accolade for Depp, who owns his own paradise retreat in the Bahamas.

Leslie Vanderpool says, "There is no actor better suited to receive Biff's highest honor, the Career Achievement Award. Johnny Depp is one of the finest actors of our generation and is, simply put, an icon. We're all tremendously excited to present him with this honor and celebrate his incomparable career. What makes this tribute to Johnny even more special is that he has a home in the Bahamas and possesses a true love and appreciation for the region and culture. This will be an amazing and magical event for everyone involved".

The Career Achievement Award, whose previous recipients include NicolasCage, Daryl Hannah and Laurence Fishburne, was set up to recognize stars whose body of work has had a profound impact on cinema. The festival is set to take place from December 10 to December 17 , ’09.
