Alice In Wonderland May Be Boycotted In UK

Rating: Frio™

'Alice in Wonderland' may be boycotted by a number of UK cinemas.

Odeon, Vue and Cineworld may cut the Tim Burton-directed movie from their screens because Disney want to close the gap between the cinema and DVD releases.

Large exhibitors often refuse to show a film that doesn't have a four-month run, but Disney are looking to cut the release window down to 12 weeks.

Disney distribution chiefs Bob Chapek and Chuck Viane are so concerned that they have flown to the UK to deal with the problem.

Chapek said: "We feel that it's important for us to maintain a healthy business on the exhibition side and a healthy business on the home video side. We remain committed to theatrical windows, with the need
for exceptions to accommodate a shortened timeframe on a case-by-case basis,
such as with Disney's 'Alice
in Wonderland'."

Odeon, Vue and Cineworld represent 95 per cent of the UK's 3-D screens, and any problem could lead to Disney losing a substantial part of its predicted $54 million UK revenue.
